A great gathering of practitioners from all over Europe had come together in the institute to welcome the spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu lineage by offering Khatags, traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarves.
Monday evening, September the 15th, 2008, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje gave a talk on “the spirit of Generosity and Peace” in the famous Theatre des Bouffes Parisiens. The many disciples and Parisians who had crowded in the typical 19th century French theatre, received an inspiring teaching on this subject by the head of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
During the following days, the Gyalwa Karmapa took part in the symposium “Inner Peace – Outer Peace” which had been organised by Karma Kagyu Sangha on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the official recognition of the Austrian Buddhist Society. The aim of this symposium was to “discover sources of peace and happiness” through teachings and discussions with authentic Buddhist masters from different traditions who would share the treasure of their knowledge and experience with the participants.
During the three days before the arrival of the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Trinley Thaye Dorje, the Lamas and Druplas of Dhagpo Kundreul Ling, along with practitioners coming from the neighbourhood, performed the Sangtik Dordje Sempa practice as a preparation for this exceptional visit.
