Condolence letter from Karmapa concerning Earthquake in Nepal

Dear Dharma friends,

It is with heartfelt sorrow that I have been following the tragic developments ensuing from the massive earthquake that struck Nepal and the neighboring countries this morning.

Over nine hundred people are dead, many more injured or still missing, and thousands have lost their homes and livelihoods.

My wishes and prayers are with all the victims of the disaster, the deceased, the injured and the bereaved alike.

I would request all of my students to join me in making wishes and praying for them, to make lamp offerings dedicated to their benefit, and especially to recite the six-syllable mantra of the Buddha of compassion, Avalokiteshvara, as much as possible.

With prayers,

Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje

Words of Wisdom
So when we practice compassion, when we apply compassion in our daily lives, we really have to tell ourselves, “That’s me, that’s who I am. I cannot change that; no one can change that.
