Buddha Purnima 2015 celebrated in memory of Nepal Earthquake victims
5th May this year marks the Buddha Purnima (Vesak) day, which is the day of birth, enlightenment and parinirvana of historical Buddha Shakyamuni.
Vesak day is one of the most important auspicious days in buddhist calendar. This year His Holiness Karmapa commemorated that day in memory of victims of recent earthquake in Nepal.
About a thousand devotees from the Himalayas, India and the rest of the world congregated at the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in New Delhi, to dedicate the Buddha Purnima observances to Nepal in the presence of dignities of the Nepal government. The event was presided by H.H. the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje.
His Holiness said:
Buddha has shown that it is possible to overcome these forces no matter how powerful they are and the ‘cause and effect‘ of all obstacles.
