Losar and opening ceremony of the new Shedra in Kalimpong
Losar (Tibetan New Year) was celebrated on February 13th, this year. In Kalimpong, the location in India where Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje receives his education, Shamar Rinpoche has built a Shedra, an Institute of Buddhist studies, for monks of the Karma Kagyu Tradition.
Traditionally, nine days before Losar, Mahakala rituals were performed.
On Losar day, together with Gyalwa Karmapa and Shamar Rinpoche, a puja was performed, which was attended by many guests from East and West.
On February 15th, a young Tulku was recognised by Gyalwa Karmapa during the performance of a Tara ritual. On February 17th the new Shedra was inaugurated by Gyalwa Karmapa, Shamar Rinpoche and a local official. More than 1000 people came to join in the ceremonies.
